Antelope
Hunt PG685
NUMBER 1 TROPHY PRONGHORN HUNT
This hunt has produced an
amazing amount of Boone and Crockett bucks for taking such a limited
number of hunters, 4 per year. Sorry to say 2011 was not one of
them. If you hadn’t heard this area was on its 427th
day without rain when the hunt started. It was the worst drought
in west Texas
and southeast
New Mexico
in over 100 years. HCU’s Cliff Graham and Bob Wodzisz were on this
hunt along with a couple buddies. They took 3 bucks with the best
grossing 82 inches and the unsuccessful hunter passed on over 50 bucks.
The outfitter offered him a return trip at no cost due to the poor
weather conditions; it doesn’t get any fairer than that.
This trophy hunt is $4,000 guided 1x1 and with only
taking 4 hunters on this 25,000-acre ranch you get an amazing
opportunity for a great pronghorn. In 2010, 3 of the 4 bucks taken
had 16-inch horns and grossed 80 inches or better. In 2009, 3 of
the 4 bucks taken gross scored over the Boone and Crockett minimum of 82
points and the best grossed 87 with 2 more at 85. In 2008 all 4
bucks grossed over 82 with the best coming in at 87 and 86 inches.
2-day hunt takes place in southeastern New Mexico
near Gladiola and includes nice ranch house accommodations, home cooked
meals and airport pickup in Midland or
fly into Lubbock, Texas
and rent a car. Season is the second or third weekend in September. 2
of the 4 spots are still available for 2012.
