Hunt CU247

ALASKA DROP CAMP CARIBOU HUNTS $3150
Last fall caribou success was down due to a late migration and extremely hot weather.  Hunters saw more little groups and maybe only up to 100 in 5 days, as compared to 500 to 1,500 during the 2008 season.  Unguided hunters ran 70 to 75% success compared to normal years of 90%.  He also took 20 guided customers and 18 scored on bulls.

The Western Arctic herd numbers between 450,000 to 600,000. This hunt takes place in Unit 23 and starting in 2010 a second bull can be taken on a trophy fee.  Dates are late August to late September.

Unguided hunts are priced at $3,150 for one caribou.  This is based on double occupancy, and includes tents, cots, food, cooking equipment, transportation of meat, capes and antlers back to Kotzebue.

Guided hunts 2x1 for 5 days is $6,000.  Air support continues monitoring the migration and his camps are mobile and can be relocated if necessary.  Non-resident hunting license is $86, caribou tag is $325 and wolf tag is $35.  Hunters fly to Anchorage and then onto Kotzebue where you take a charter for about $500 roundtrip to camp.
