Moose
Hunt MS247
Last fall all 8 hunters should have scored, but one hunter passed on 8 bulls the first day including a 65-inch bull another hunter later took and the other unsuccessful hunter also passed on a 64-inch bull. The other 6 hunters took bulls including a 67, 65, 64, 2 more over 60 and a 57-inch bull, despite terrible weather including plenty of early snowfall.
Fall of 2012 produced 3 bulls for 3 hunters with spreads of 69, 67 and 62 inches. The outfitter had a tag and a 4 hour window between hunters and he tagged out on a 65-incher. Up until 2012 he only had one hunter in the past several years not go home with a big bull and he was an older hunter that just was not able to physically do the hunt.
In 2011, his hunters took 6 bulls up into the
mid-60’s. In 2010 he had 4 hunters and the smallest bull went 62 inches
and everyone was tagged out by day 3. Best bull taken in 2009 was just
shy of 69 inches and in 2008 it was 68 inches.
This had always been one of the top moose areas in northwestern
The season is from September 1 to 20, but early has
been better for calling and they are normally tagged out by September 8.
10-day hunts guided 1x1 are $15,000, moose/caribou combos are $17,000
and moose/grizzly is $19,500 and had also been 100% success.
