Hunt MS247

ALASKA TROPHY MOOSE AREA
TYPICALLY 100% ON BULLS OVER 60 INCHES
Last fall ended this outfitter’s 100 percent success rate for several years in a row when he had an older hunter that just was not physically able to hike.  He ended up taking 6 bulls for 7 hunters.  In 2010 he had 4 hunters and the smallest bull went 62 inches and everyone was tagged out by day 3.  Best bull taken in 2009 was just shy of 69 inches and in 2008 it was 68 inches.

This had always been one of the top moose areas in northwestern Alaska, but when the state made it a draw area it just got better.  He hunts 2 sections of the same area that have have drawing odds of 60% and 35% and although the odds are high it chases some hunters away.

The season is from September 1 to 20, but early has been better for calling and they are normally tagged out by September 8.  10-day hunts guided 1x1 are $14,500, moose/caribou combos are $16,500 and moose/grizzly is $17,500 and had also been 100% success.

Hunters fly from Anchorage to Kotzebue, where they charter to camp.  Draw application deadline is December 31 and results are out in April.
