Hunt WD119

GREAT SASKATCHEWAN AREA
20 HUNTERS TAG 17 BUCKS

At press time this outfit had hosted 20 hunters and 17 were successful. Best bucks for 2013 grossed in the upper 150’s and the overall average was just shy of 145 points.

In 2012 the numbers totaled 24 bucks for 28 hunters and the best buck taken gross scored 183.  Average bucks taken scored in the mid-140’s. 4 repeat hunters were holding out for really big deer and HCU’s Scott Steinkruger hunted the same week as two of them and they both passed on 150 class bucks.

At press time in 2013 they were 5 for 6, one hunter held out and the best buck grossed 155.  The outfitter also has a duck guide that will take out hunters after they tag their buck for only $100 per day. Duck hunting is normally available on the first and second deer hunts.

This longtime outfitter recently purchased a proven quality operation in northwestern Saskatchewan near Meadow Lake, an area known for really big deer with terrific genetics. The past outfitter has been producing monster whitetails for several years and had been managing their herd with a 140-inch minimum. It has superb accommodations and they normally use heated double bull blinds on bait sites.

This outfitting family is not new to the business.  HCU has worked with them for over 15 years and they run top quality hunts. This new operation will fit into the schedule, as their sheep and moose hunts will have finished up in early October, in plenty of time for the Saskatchewan hunts.

6-day hunts are $4,800 plus tax and license at about $300. Hunters fly into Saskatoon and rent a car for the 3 ½ hour or Edmonton for a 5 ½ hour drive. Archery hunts will be the last week of October and rifle hunts typically run from early November up to and including the first week of December. HCU’s Scott Steinkruger has been on this hunt.
